FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I convert my existing boat to electric?

Very likely. We convert outboard boats up to 6 m long, and some inboards. Send us a few photos and the make, model and motor, and we'll tell you whether yours suits.

How far can I go on a charge?

An estimated 50 km with some reserve, based on our trial boats using around 1.1 kWh/km at 20 mph. Towing and extra passengers use more; trolling uses much less.

How do I charge it?

Most owners charge overnight at home or the bach. We'll confirm the right charging set-up for your boat and power supply during your proposal.

Can it pull skiers?

Yes. Our boats are built by a watersports family and tested behind skiers every summer.

Is it safe around water?

The system is designed to AS/NZS 3004.2:2014 (marine electrical installations) and ISO 10133:2017 (small craft electrical systems).

Do you sell electric outboard motors?

We don't sell off-the-shelf electric outboards. Instead we fit an electric motor and drive to your existing outboard (or inboard), so you keep the boat you know and get a motor sized for watersports.

How much does an electric boat conversion cost?

Every boat is different, so we price each conversion individually and send you a fixed-price proposal before any work starts.

Is there funding for electric boats in New Zealand?

Our first customer boats qualify for early-adopter support through the EECA Low Emission Transport Fund. Ask us whether places are still available.

Do you convert vehicles as well as boats?

Boats are our focus, but the same electric drive and battery engineering can suit other vehicles. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll let you know if we can help.

What happens to my old motor?

It's yours to sell or keep. Many owners use the sale to offset part of the cost.

How long does it take?

Typically six months from deposit: three for batteries to arrive, three for engineering and install.

What about warranty and servicing?

One year on the installation, plus business-hours on-call support. Electric drives need far less routine servicing than petrol motors.

Do you work outside Canterbury?

Yes. Delivery within 100 km of Christchurch is included; further afield is quoted separately. We're building a boat for a Wānaka owner now.
